The Ad Hoc Committee for Illinois Home Education Legal and Legislative Matters, commonly known as "Ad Hoc", is an inclusive volunteer consensus organization which advocates for all homeschoolers throughout Illinois.
Toward that goal, Ad Hoc sends a representative to the Illinois Coalition of Nonpublic Schools (ICNS) where Ad Hoc and other nonpublic schools (brick-and-mortar private schools, as they are colloquially known) are able to keep a watchful eye on any related legislation through very experienced, alert, and insightful lobbyists.
Since its founding in 1984, Ad Hoc has been dedicated to protecting private homeschools from state regulations which would infringe upon the freedom of parents to educate their children. Working by consensus the voting members of Ad Hoc present unified positions to state school officials and legislators on important legislative and legal issues impacting home education in Illinois.
We are committed to advancing the principle of academic freedom for the good of all citizens in Illinois.
Ad Hoc opposes universal registration of nonpublic school students.
Ad Hoc opposes treating homeschools differently from other nonpublic schools.
Ad Hoc opposes special qualifications for home educators.
Ad Hoc opposes performance requirements for students enrolled in home schools.
